‘The word chiropractic derived from the Greek words ‘Chiro’ meaning ‘By Hand’ and ‘Practic’ which means ‘Practice’ ie. practice by hand.’
Chiropractic is a regulated primary healthcare profession. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health.
Chiropractic is considered a type of complementary and alternative medicine, meaning it uses a natural and drugless approach.
What happens during chiropractic treatment
At your first appointment, our chiropractors will assess your symptoms in a consultation to determine if chiropractic treatment is suitable and what techniques are likely to help.
Our Chiropractors use a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility, including hands-on manipulation of the spine. As well as manual treatment, we are able to offer a package of care which includes advice on self-help, therapeutic exercises and lifestyle changes.
Some of these different techniques will include:
spinal manipulation – using their hands to apply force to muscles, bones and joints in and around the spine
short, sharp thrusting movements
gradually moving your joints into different positions
pulling or stretching your muscles in different directions
“When your body feels stiff, numb and painful, it is a result of interference to the spinal nerves.”
