What is Chiropractic Treatment?

Our doctors of chiropractic undergo a five year full time degree, qualifying them to carry out a full medical and health history examination,  x-rays plus neurological, orthopedic and chiropractic tests in order to diagnose your complaint.

Chiropractic treatment will be offered if appropriate to your condition and a plan will be tailored to your individual needs. Alternatively if our chiropractors are unable to help they will make the necessary referral to the appropriate practitioner. You do not need a GP referral to see a chiropractor.

Chiropractic treatments consist mainly of Spinal Adjustments, a specific form of Spinal Manipulation. During an Adjustment the Chiropractor uses their hands to move the affected joint, restoring motion and reducing pain, without the need for medication or invasive procedures. Chiropractors also use soft tissue techniques to treat the muscles surrounding the joint and are trained to recommend rehabilitative exercises as well as giving lifestyle and dietary advice to tackle every aspect of the problem.

How Chiropractic Treatment Helps

Chiropractic care is a natural and holistic approach to the treatment of a variety of Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal conditions; which mean problems with the nerves, muscle, bones and the joints in the human body.

Chiropractic care can help treat:

The role of chiropractors is to diagnose, locate and treat spinal joints and nerves. Treatment aims not only alleviate symptoms but to help prevent recurrence by addressing the route cause of your complaint.

Chiropractic care is suitable for all ages and backgrounds and some of the many benefits include not relying on the need for pain relieving medication or invasive surgical procedures.

How Chiropractic Treatment Works

The body relies on nerves to relay information between the brain and the body. Your nervous system is responsible for the function in every part of your body.

At times because of external stresses placed on the body such as poor posture, stress and previous injuries the function of the spinal joints and surrounding tissue can become compromised, in time this can lead to nerve irritation that may cause symptoms.

A chiropractic adjustment, also known as a chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, is a common therapeutic treatment for Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal conditions.

By applying focused and localised pressure to the spinal joints, it restores motion to the affected joints reducing nerve irritation, which in time allows the body to heal itself and function better.

What to expect on your first visit to a chiropractor

At your first appointment, our chiropractors will assess your symptoms in a consultation to determine if chiropractic treatment is suitable and what techniques are likely to help.

  • Nutritional advice – advice and guidance to supplement your treatment
  • Rehabilitation therapy – our on-site rehabilitation specialists support your care when needed
