What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is the principal cause of physical pain and disability in the UK, affecting around 10 million people.
It is an inflammatory disease, affecting joints, and causing people to suffer pain and difficulty moving around. The two of the most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis, degenerative, and rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune.
Arthritis comes from the words “arther”- joint and “itis”- inflammation. Arthritis is a collection of symptoms affecting joints which causes joint pain, swelling and stiffness.

How Chiropractic Treatment Alleviates Arthritis Symptoms
Living with arthritis can be challenging, affecting mobility, comfort, and overall quality of life.
While traditional treatments often focus on medication and surgery, chiropractic care offers a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of arthritis symptoms.
Through gentle adjustments and specialized techniques, chiropractors can provide significant relief and improve joint function for individuals grappling with arthritis. Explore the various ways chiropractic treatment can offer relief and enhance the well-being of arthritis sufferers.
01
Pain Management
Chiropractic adjustments target misalignments in the spine and joints, which can alleviate pain associated with arthritis.
By restoring proper alignment, chiropractors help reduce pressure on affected joints, easing discomfort and promoting natural pain relief.
Through a tailored treatment plan, individuals can experience a significant reduction in arthritis-related pain, enhancing their ability to engage in daily activities with greater ease.
02
Improved Joint Function
Arthritis often restricts joint mobility, leading to stiffness and reduced range of motion. Chiropractic care focuses on restoring optimal joint function through gentle manipulation techniques.
By enhancing joint mobility and flexibility, chiropractors enable arthritis sufferers to move more freely and comfortably.
Increased joint function not only reduces pain but also enhances overall mobility, empowering people to lead more active and fulfilling lives.
03
Inflammation Reduction
Chiropractic adjustments can help reduce inflammation in arthritic joints, a key factor contributing to pain and stiffness.
Through targeted manipulations and therapeutic techniques, we aim to minimise inflammation and swelling, promoting healing and tissue repair.
By addressing inflammation at its source, chiropractic care offers a natural and effective way to manage arthritis symptoms, without relying on medication or invasive procedures.
04
Posture Correction
Poor posture can exacerbate arthritis symptoms, placing additional strain on affected joints and leading to increased discomfort.
Chiropractors evaluate posture and spinal alignment to identify areas of imbalance contributing to arthritis-related issues.
Through corrective exercises and adjustments, chiropractic care helps improve posture, relieving pressure on joints and reducing pain. By promoting proper alignment, individuals can experience long-term relief from arthritis symptoms and prevent further deterioration.
05

Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in the UK, affecting nearly 9 million people. Some people call it degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” arthritis.
With Osteoarthritis, the cartilage within a joint begins to break down and the underlying bone begins to change. These changes usually develop slowly and get worse over time. Osteoarthritis can cause pain, stiffness, and swelling. In some cases it also causes reduced function and disability; some people are no longer able to do daily tasks or work.
The most commonly affected joints are those in the:
• Hands
• Spine
• Knees
• Hips
Arthritis affects around 10 million people in the UK. The treatment options available at Life Chiropractic means there is a solution.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
In the UK, rheumatoid arthritis affects more than 400,000 people. It often starts when a person is between 40 and 50 years old. Women are 3 times more likely to be affected than men.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of autoimmune disease in which your body attacks healthy joint tissue. Common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include morning stiffness and joint pain, typically in the same joint on both sides of your body. Joint deformities can eventually develop.
In rheumatoid arthritis, the body’s immune system targets affected joints, which leads to pain and swelling. The outer covering (synovium) of the joint is the first place affected.
This can then spread across the joint, leading to further swelling and a change in the joint’s shape. This may cause the bone and cartilage to break down.
People with rheumatoid arthritis can also develop problems with other tissues and organs in their body.
