A touch of health, a way of life

Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica is the name given to any sort of pain that is caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve.

What is sciatica and why should you have it treated?

If you have a herniated disc.  And suffer from a pain, numbness or a tingling sensation that radiates from your lower back and travels down one of your legs to your foot and toes then it’s likely you are suffering from sciatica.

Deep tissue massage therapy and chiropractic care are a proven antidote to the leg pain, numbness and tingling caused by sciatica.

Specialist Sciatica treatment

We see people suffering with Sciatica every single day, it is one of the most common conditions we treat at Life Chiropractic here in Essex, and our holistic chiropractic care consistently achieves life-changing results.

“Having a herniated or “slipped” disc does not condemn you to a lifetime suffering from sciatica. And out patients are proof of that.

Our specialist chiropractors tailor a treatment programme to address the causes of sciatica.  Using advanced diagnostic equipment such as digital x-ray machines and computerised spinal scans.

Suggesting adjustments to posture and recommending stretching & exercise.

As well as employing hands on chiropractic care & massage techniques to reduce the pain and prevent it returning in the future.

Symptoms of Sciatica:

The longest nerve in your body, the sciatic nerve runs from the back of your pelvis, through your buttocks, down both legs, ending at your feet.

Sometimes mild, but more frequently very painful, sciatica is often worsened by rapid movements such as sneezing or coughing, or by sitting for a long period of time.

Causes of sciatica:

In most cases we treat, sciatica is caused by a herniated or “slipped” disc. This means that one of the discs in the patient’s spine (the vertebrae) is damaged and presses on the nerves.

Less common causes we have treated in clinic include spinal stenosis (narrowing of the nerve passages in the spine), and spinal injury or infection.

How we can help you

The key to the great results we achieve with the thousands of patients we treat across our four clinics is getting the diagnosis right, therefore, we have dedicated the first two consultations you will receive to this:

On your first consultation one of our qualified chiropractors will take a full history and will take you through a physical examination to pinpoint the cause of your symptoms. We will then use advanced Digital X-Ray* technology as part of the diagnostic process.

On your second consultation (the Report of Findings), once the cause of your symptoms has been established, we will provide you with a clear explanation of what we have discovered along with the best and most beneficial way forward. At that point you can start your treatment and start looking forward to feeling much better.

What’s Included In Our £40 Consultation:

Review of your health history
You will be asked to complete a health history questionnaire which gives us a good overview of your general health history, this is important in understanding how your past may have contributed to your current chiropractic health.

Chiropractic Examination
(Orthopaedic, Neurologic and Palpation)
Your dedicated chiropractor will carry out an initial chiropractic examination, covering flexibility, range of movement, posture and many other general areas.

Postural & Spinal Assessment
As part of your examination we will cover your posture, a key part of assessing your general chiropractic health.

X-ray imaging
If your chiropractor feels it necessary they will carry out a digital spine x-ray. This will help in many cases to quickly ascertain the root cause of any pain and discomfort you are experiencing.
(Any number of x-rays needed are included)

A report of findings
Following your initial chiropractic consultation we will book a date for you to return so we can run through a full report of findings with you. This will explain what was found in the consultation and x-rays, our recommendations and your on-going treatment plan.
